Andrew Berry and Co. wasted no time when Free Agency opened at noon today. When he said he was going to be aggressive in adding players to this roster…he wasn’t kidding around. They made a big splash and signed the top tight end on the open market: Austin Hooper, and they will reportedly make him the NFL’s highest-paid TE.
Hooper was selected in the 3rd round of the 2016 Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. Since coming into the league Hooper has been regarded as one of the most dynamic playmakers at his position. In 2019 Hooper put up career numbers in just 13 games. He recorded 75 catches for 786 yards and 6 touchdowns.
The pairing of Hooper and David Njoku should bode well in Kevin Stefanski’s offense. It is important to note that prior to the 2019 season, the Minnesota Vikings used a 2nd round draft pick to take Irv Smith and extended the contract of veteran TE Kyle Rudolph. Baker Mayfield now will have two dynamic players and athletes to target at the TE position.
